The 25 Best Cities for Pizza Lovers

Following yearly increases, our consumption of pizza has peaked, according to an article by Time’s Brad Tuttle. Although our love for pizza has plateaued, 40 percent of Americans consumed pizza at least once weekly in 2012, according to Technomic, a food and beverage research company.

Perhaps pizza’s popularity stems from its versatility. You can stick to the tried-and-true combination of mozzarella, marinara sauce and bread, or toss on veggie-delight and meat-lover variations. Different regions have their own takes, as well, including deep-dish (Chicago) and thin-crust (New York) styles. However you dress it up, pizza is a beloved go-to in American cuisine that is here to stay. Statista reports the U.S. pizza industry accounted for $38.5 billion in sales in 2013 alone. That means the average American spent more than $125 on pizza that year.

To commemorate National Cheese Pizza Day, FindTheHome and FindTheCompany sought to identify the true pizza capital of each state. Using Dun & Bradstreet data, we looked at the density of pizza joints in major American cities (where populations exceed 20,000 people).

Here’s a look at the 25 pizza capitals with the highest density of pizza-serving establishments, along with a notable restaurant and dish for foodies to enjoy.
