How Stratford Appreciates Military Personnel Through Their Programs | Stratford University

One of the most rewarding benefits a service member can receive from serving in the US military is the GI Bill. It’s not always clear what your next step will be once you’ve completed your service, but it is reassuring to know you have options for the future. It can be a bit overwhelming sorting through the different educational programs the military offers. Stratford University offers a range of college programs for military members and has a dedicated Military Student Office to assist with all the aspects of your education.

Military Student Office

As a military friendly school, Stratford University participates in a number of military education programs, including Services Members Opportunities College (SMOC), as well as the Yellow Ribbon program, which aim to help current US military and former US military personnel with their education and career goals. The Military Student Office is designed to assist you with all aspects of your academic career, such as:

  • Choose your best benefit options
  • Compare between Montgomery and Post-9/11 GI Bills
  • Navigate the VA and TA systems
  • Complete your benefit request forms
  • Coordinate your VA and TA payments with the Business Office
  • Acquire your Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) if applicable
  • Transfer your benefits to children or spouse
  • Extend your benefits beyond 36 months if applicable
  • Deal with the stress of academic life

GI Bill University Benefits

There are several GI Bill benefits that Stratford University accepts as part of our military college benefits program. Our Military Student Services can help you decide which benefits you may qualify for as well as which program best suits your needs.

Montgomery GI Bill:

This program offers education benefits to veterans and service members with at least 2 years of active duty. This program offers up to 36 months of education benefits and the benefits are payable for 10 years following release from active duty. The amount of benefits offered is dependent upon the time spent in active duty. It does not include book expenses or basic allowance for housing. You also must have contributed $1,200 to the program while still active.

Post-9/11 GI Bill:

This program offers education benefits for those who served at least 90 days of active service since September 11, 2001, or a minimum of 30 days post-9/11, if you were discharged due to service-connected injury or illness. This program provides tuition payments upfront to the school, a monthly living allowance and a book stipend.

Yellow Ribbon program:

Stratford University is a proud participant of the Yellow Ribbon program. This program covers any tuition and fees that the Post-9/11 GI Bill doesn’t cover. All schools that participate in this program provide a scholarship that covers 50% of the funding gap and the VA agrees to pay the rest. It only applies to applicants that qualify for 100% benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

TA Scholarship Program

Stratford University offers Tuition Assistance for the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. The Military Student Office can help navigate the educational system to secure these benefits. Active military personnel can receive a scholarship to reduce tuition up to 50% with tuition assistance. This program is meant to reduce the out-of-pocket expenses for active duty military personnel. Please note this scholarship is applicable for tuition only and will not cover the costs of some laboratory or culinary classes. It does not apply to the university nursing program.
